Missing media control bar in google maps

Hey everyone,
I just got a Pixel 7 and installed GrapheneOS on it. One thing I've noticed is that the media control bar while using google maps is missing. With media control bar I refer to the bar below estimated remaining driving time (see attached image).

Can anybody tell me if this is due to a general android issue, some problem with my settings or due to limited permissions of the google apps? My previous phone, on which this screenshot was taken, was a Xiaomi Mi 9T on Android 10.

Scrath I have never seen that media bar on GrapheneOS, so my first instinct is that it's not possible.

I found a setting in google maps where I can select the default media player. When using that media player, the bar will show up. The problem is, that for some reason only spotify is shown as a selectable app.

Edit:
Youtube Music is also available to select after I installed it. Based on this I'd guess this is more of android/google maps issue rather than to do with grapheneOS.

Unfortunately, I want that media control bar for apps like Symfonium and Audiobookshelf so that doesn't really help me :(

Scrath I didn't know about this feature. Thanks for introducing it to me :)

I imagine that the integration with media controls in Google Maps might be something that the app developers of Synfonium and Audiobookshelf have to support themselves.

treequell I'm honestly just confused at this point because this media control bar used to be available on my old phone for those apps. The bar showed up automatically as soon as media was playing in the background, no matter the app.

Scrath You mentioned that your old phone was running Android 10. It could well be that things have changed then, with GrapheneOS running Android 13. It might well be that even on a device running stock Pixel OS on Android 13, the media controls bar would not work for your two apps. It would be important to know this, before asking any GrapheneOS developer to look into this.
