Block My ScriptKiddie Neighbor from accessing my hotspot...

My neighbor runs wifite every time he sees my hotspot up, how can I block his device mac address and see more info about the hotspot activity using the default settings app.

Any tips would be appreciated, thank you.

MAC addresses can be set to arbitrary values including setting it to the same address as already connected devices, which have their MAC address visible over the air. MAC addresses are randomized by default even on standard Android anyway. Randomly generated passwords are secure as long as they're high enough entropy based on the implemented throttling.

skylosophos This story is not believable and the thread has been removed. This isn't an appropriate way to request a feature, and what you're requesting would be insecure security theater not providing any actual value when using a random passphrase.

May I ask how are you setting up the hotspot is it from your phone or from a home router

I don't have wifi enabled on my router, when I have visitors on my home I enable my sim mobile data -> settings -> enable wifi hotspot -> give them access.

I always end up finding an extra device connected. It's annoying...

He could possibly be using a dictionary attack I suggest you use a password that is not in a dictionary maybe someone else on the forum could give another input

the title is kinda of click bait tho, I'm interested of how can I monitor the traffic of my hotspot, block MAC addresses etc there are 3rd party apps even on iOS for this.

I'm not sure if it matters if you believe me or not, having a way to monitor the traffic of my hotspot network by default or having a notification about devices connecting to it wouldn't it be a nice feature? It already has a device connected number count. Is this really an "insecure security theater"?

skylosophos MAC filtering is certainly security theater, even with a whitelist, because each device can choose their MAC and it can be set to the same MAC as other devices.

Some devices connect to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, etc. You're probably misinterpreting the number and you've come up with a reason for what's happening that's not based on evidence.

Don't you think it'd be a good even as an optional setting to have a notification about a device connecting to your hotspot? I'd think even a confirmation popup would be a nice feature but whatever.

I'm not even sure if every new laptop nowdays comes with randomized MAC address, nor that old ones have a built in support for it, but that's besides the point. Since grapheneos has a nice count of connected devices, it'd be nice to have a notification/configuration that takes advantage of that.
