Camera location tagging w/o play services

Hi there.

I'd like to have the Google Camera app tag the location from where I took a photo/video. Currently granting location permission and enabling the location toggle doesnt work. When taking a picture the exif still says no location data.
Has anyone found a way around this or should I just install Play services?

jepew52149 Google Camera uses Google Play services for location. You should use sandboxed Google Play. It will work with the default Location rerouting feature so you don't actually need to use Google Play services location services unless you want to use them (see our configuration guide for that in our usage guide). Sandboxed Google Play are regular apps without any special access. They cannot do anything that Google Camera or other apps can't already do on their own.

Sometimes I have issues with this.

The general tips here in the forums when GPS does not lock in certain apps is to open a GPS app, make sure that the GPS locks and then go to the Camera app (it should then be good, since it is already locked)

Panda-na Does this mean that G. Cam assumes G. Maps is always also installed and try pull GPS data from there? And if not found it also doesn't bother to give any warning?

dgzeij Google Camera might well depend on Google Play Services for location requests. I'm not sure, as I haven't tested it myself, but that's the first thing I'd try.
