Is Bing respecting the privacy or the only search engine respecting the privacy is duckduckgo?

[deleted] DDG acts as a proxy to Bing the same way Startpage acts a proxy to Google Search. There's nothing 'privacy-respecting' about Bing. It's why these proxies exist.

[deleted] it depends on your concerns. All searches are logged forever on it including IP and other identifiers. They will give this info to their government or partners upon request. They also may sell this data to others in the future and are allowed to change their policies.

If you don't hold any opinions that are very controversial and don't mind all searches being logged forever, then yes, it's very respectful.

Well, if a search engine is not collecting usage data, then there's no data to get compromised. So from a privacy standpoint, I can't see how it makes sense to argue for using search engines that is obviously collecting both data and metadata about my usage, when there are well-known alternative search engines that collect limited or close to no data about my searches.

A simple web search shows that, at least compared to Google, Bing does a better (far from great, of course) job when it comes to privacy.

So Google, which offers you sponso or other content, is the same in the end because you don't have to click on its links.

I understand perfectly well that IP addresses are constantly sent and received in the way you are implying. The question is, I should think obvious, whether these services are retaining IP addresses and so on for an indefinite amount of time or whether they purge their logs after some time. The best thing OP can do here is to read Bing's/Microsoft's privacy policy (as fun as that is) and decide for themselves what to make of it. One can of course make speculations on how much data Bing retains, if one feels that is time better spent.

itsjpb I appreciate the link to the grapheneos.org privacy policy. It is nice to know that the grapheneos.org team has adopted the EFF's DNT policy, in particular that the GrapheneOS web servers delete log data after 10 days.

Since discuss.grapheneos.org sends mail when a thread is updated, it is retaining some user identification (the mail address) indefinitely rather than for 10 days. But users are providing that information voluntarily with the expectation that it will be retained and used that way, so that's fine.

With your help I think I understand what the other poster meant by:
