How do I stop apps from running in the background once they are closed?

This post is mainly about NewPipe, but applies to all apps. Is there a way to have the app fully close (basically equivalent to going into settings>app>force stop), when you close them? NewPipe is great, but very buggy and I will often have it send me to a crash report screen even after I have stopped using it because it encountered an issue in the background. I have no need for it to be running in the background at all, so I am wondering if there is a way to permanently disable that for certain apps?

domovoy you can long press on an app icon, select "app info" and there is a force stop option there

Bumwin3 while this does kill the app in the background, I was hoping there would be a more permanent solution, so you don't have to do this every time you finish using an app

Bumwin3 follow on to the second part, you can restrict background usage in the same app info menu under "app battery usage"

In my experience even if you restrict battery usage in the background, there are apps that should be closed from app info. For example, syncthing directly I have it disabled because it consumes a lot of battery in the background even if it has not been opened, when I go to use it I enable it.

Force stopping an app doesn't do much because the app can simply be restarted by another app.

You can close an app from the recents screen: https://developer.android.com/guide/components/activities/recents.

If you want to prevent an app from running whatsoever, you can disable it.
