I recently created a bank account at a "Raiffeisenbank" (to have a working mobile payment) and could set up the banking as well as their pay app without any issues. I granted phone and network permissions for the pay app.

Do all of these require to have a bank account with them or can you link external bank accounts inside their nfc apps?

With VR Pay you need to have a VR Bank Account, No option to link external cards. Woth Sparkasse I dont know, but most likely similar.

VR pay does not link a credit card, but a bank card that links to the Bank Acount number

TheGodfather If your app "forgets" your card this might be due to missing Play Store / framework. I personally don't have a Sparkasse account. But I know this behaviour from VR banks.

Jurij Do you know if Sparkasse's pay app needs Play Store / framework installed?

Aeon I used VR pay and both girocard and Mastercard worked fine.

Ralf401 I stopped using VR pay beeing conćerned about phone permission.

oh interesting, how did you get the mastercard into VR Pay if you dont mind me asking?

For me, it looks like only the digital Girocard got put into VR pay. I see Standardkarte and it shows my name and the IBAN on the digital card. Or do I need to do the digital card adding a 2nd time?

            Interesting, thank you!
How often does the app "forget" the cards and does this happen randomly?
So if I want to pay, could it be that the has forgotten the card again or will I notice this before?

            Thanks

Aeon They used to be two different cards. So if you wanted to use them in the VR pay app, you had to apply for a digital version of both cards and then add them seperately. Meanwhile VR banks are introducing cards with a co-bage. I don't know if this has any impact on the digital cards and the VR pay app. You should ask your bank's help desk.

thanks for the info. I just send a message to the bank with that question :-)

GraphyGraphy Please note, that I have never used Sparkasse's payment app, but VR pay.

VR pay, at the time I used it, needed network and phone permission to work - and also google play installed in the same user profile. Without phone permission the VR pay app wouldn't even start properly, so this was mandatory. If you uninstalled or deactivated play services after adding cards in VR pay, it kept working for like 9 or 10 payments and then ceased to work until it found an active google play installation again. One time the cards disappeared or were greyed out, if I remember right.

I don't know, if Sparkasse's app works the same way. But it might well be. I never understood, why VR pay needed Google play and if IPC was possibly taking place. Since VR pay also had phone permission, I stopped using the VR pay app, because I had privacy concerns.

It's running in a user profile with Play Services. Must be something else.

There seems to be a new version of VR Pay (24.8.0) without phone permission. I don't know if Play services are still necessary.

                  2 months later

At first I got an error and a white screen, but as I was waiting a few more seconds longer the "Mobiles bezahlen" (Sparkasse) app starts and I was able to add the cards :)

So maybe take some time :)
