Is updateing GOS using hotel Wi-Fi safe?

I am currently abroad and roaming fees are high. I could use the free hotel Wi-Fi (no password needed) to update to the latest release, but I am hesitating. Or is it safe, because there is a validating process or something.
I am happy about every comment on this.
