Garmin Connect App Always Active

For all of you Garmin Connect users: Have you noticed the Garmin Connect app always being an "Active App"?

My Connect app is always showing up as active and running, even when I'm not using it and/or when it is not open or in the background. I've hit "Stop" a few different times, but it always seems to come back. I can't seem to figure out why and was hoping someone might be able to provide some insight.

A few data points:

Garmin Connect app was downloaded from sandboxed Google Play
The only permissions the app has is Network and Nearby Devices

My first thought was that it might be the Nearby Devices permission, but my Oura ring app is similar and is not an Always Active app.

Not for me. I do have Connect service running in the background but not active app and the watch seems to be working properly

I usually modify every app permissions to suit my needs for it - change background data permission, battery optimization, network, etc - but for Connect I only disabled Background data, all other permissions as the app requested. I also granted some convenience permissions of the functions I use such as call logs permission, phone, notifications. The full list of permissions:

Call logs
Nearby devices
Network
Notifications
Phone
SMS

What strange that I just noticed is that under Battery optimization settings neither option is checked - all 3 options are blank.
