I have a Logitech K480 which is a modest size & has an excellent slot to hold the tablet, and this case which make a nice combination, except for two issues:
1) I want to use this tablet as a laptop replacement due to the security of GoS, and so I want a better keyboard. The Logitech is not great for typing, but the fitted case for the keyboard with storage for the tablet is an amazing feature. This keyboard just is not something which I would want to use to type lengthy documents.
2) It is bluetooth, so it is far less secure than a wired keyboard.
So while the combination packs nice, displays the tablet properly, and is <$50, it is not my ultimate answer. I have tried a couple of keyboards, and found this mechanical keyboard w/ USB-C connector to have a marvelous feel (added silicone O-rings, a few dollars & 10 minutes of removing keys, adding O-ring, & replacing keys improved the feel & sound). I am much faster & more accurate typing with it. However, it needs a stand, and so I ordered this stand which should arrive today or tomorrow. It will need a USB-C hub for full functionality as we only have the one port. I already have one I have tried & everything works fine so far (haven't tested HDMI but that isn't a priority), but I would like something that I can attach to the stand so a longer cable is needed.
It is interesting that reviews have said this is NOT a "laptop replacement" tablet, and I struggle to understand why. I think it shall do everything I wish AND be secure. I am still looking for a GOOD note-taking app that uses a stylus (I have a Penoval USI2.0 that works well). I downloaded Saber, and while I like the development they are doing, they ONLY allow cloud storage!!! You cannot access storage files locally on your device, so that while a file is stored, it is not directly accessible except through the app! The developer wants to sell you encrypted storage, which is fine except I don't use cloud storage. I am quite comfortable with encrypted containers UNDER MY CONTROL!
Many years ago I wrote notes on patients on a Fujitsu Windows Tablet which was a great device. I could type up templates & then use the stylus to write notes on various forms I created. For the same reason I don't like EMRs (grotesquely overpriced, frequent changes and bankruptcies of companies, proprietary formats, etc) as I want to control documents. I still use paper charts (yeah, I am a dinosaur, but as an 'off-grid' doc not working in a system I do as I please) and so printing a hard copy for a chart AND having encrypted copies with me at all times was how I used to do it and would like to resume. So:
open source
local storage
stylus + ability to use typed templates
should not be hard. I LOVE GoS - both the underlying principles as well as the execution. I am SOLD on the security compared to my Linux laptop (not yet ready for Qubes - but that is a goal). If I could swap out the mechanical usb keyboard into the Logitech form factor I would be pretty darn happy! Oh - battery life is marvelous as well (especially compared to my P7).
EDIT: and of course I too miss the point that it is SOFTWARE keyboards! I agree, it is crazy trying to use this thing that way (typing on my laptop at the moment). Floris is on trial on my P7 but it needs more development.
