One of the things the GrapheneOS project has repeatedly mentioned is that a secure computing device needs consistent updates (including firmware) to address vulnerabilities that inevitably arise. Whether phones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, routers, TVs, etc pretty much anything connected to the Internet should have timely updates, and how long a company will provide those updates seems like important information for a consumer to have before buying a product. Unfortunately, companies generally don't make it easy to find out how long they will support their devices ahead of time. (They also generally don't tell folks when their devices are end of life)
I know of a few companies that list their minimum support times for their products, most notably Google with their Pixel devices (Phones, Tablet, and Watch), ChromeOS devices, and Nest/Chromecast devices. Another example is Microsoft with their Surface devices. Many Samsung Mobile devices supposedly get 4-5 years of updates, but I couldn't find a page on their website. Apple doesn't appear to list a support period, but generally supports their products for a minimum of 5-6 years.
Do folks know of other companies that clearly list how long they plan to support their devices? I'm personally most curious about routers and smartwatches/fitness trackers (Garmin in particular), but any tech item would be good to know.
Finally, I should mention that I am aware of endoflife.date, which is a great resource, but mostly just lists whether a device has reached end of life, not how long it will last.
Thanks!
