My tendencies to deep-dive led me to consider and embrace digital minimalism, advocated by some. I back up locally, manually, once every two months (photos, .vcf) or if needed (ie a new entry in .kdbx file). I think very carefully before signing up or opening any account.
I abandoned many things (my calendar is not an app, but a mere photograph of an actual calendar), my To-Do list, appointments - and many other things - are just Notally/Standard Note entries, that I can choose to export and occasionally email to myself.
I heard a TED talk where the speaker, a prof studying memory, mentioned: "if it's important, DON'T write it down". I try to practice it.
I whittled everything down to MBs, not TB/GBs.
This isn't an answer to your question per se, but after spending way too much time with tech, set-ups, diagnosing issues, wielding concerns about increased attack surfaces and looking for solutions, I'd had enough one day and this was what I came up with. There is a world out there beyond screens. Perhaps this can help some, by being a needed push.
Edited that I back up manually.
