GrapheneOS is an AOSP fork focused on security and privacy. Every line of AOSP code that GrapheneOS changes must be re-patched for every upstream release. The GrapheneOS team incorporates upstream releases very quickly. As a result, there is limited time for maintaining local changes that are not related to security and privacy.
Given the curent development team, there are many things "appealing to the community" that are not feasible now.
If you were to hire a developer to add this feature to AOSP and Google accepted it, then multiple projects downstream from AOSP, including GrapheneOS, would benefit.
