[Guide] Use Google's Emoji Wallpaper Workshop on GrapheneOS

I figured out a way to get the Emoji Wallpaper Workshop from the June 2023 Pixel Feature Drop to work on GrapheneOS.

Download Google Wallpapers
Download this Emoji Wallpaper Workshop APK that I extracted from a stock Pixel 4a. (Note that you do this at your own risk!)
Open Google Wallpapers and scroll down to 'Live Wallpapers' and tap on it, then tap on the emoji wallpaper option
You'll see a blank/incorrect preview. Unfortunately this won't update while you're creating the Emoji Wallpaper, and there's no way to fix that.
Tap the gear icon in the top right and the Emoji Wallpaper editor will pop up!
Configure your wallpaper then tap the checkmark in the top right.
Tap Set Wallpaper

And that's how you do it! Kind of a janky workaround, but it works well enough until this feature is built-in to Android 14.

Out of curiosity, would it be possible to extract the Wallpapers & Styles app itself from stock and see if this possibly works better on it? The UI between the Play Store version and the stock OS version seems to be rather different.

I tried that and unfortunately it doesn't work. The stock Wallpaper & Styles app won't even launch because it's missing a CUSTOMIZE_SYSTEM_UI permission that is only granted when it's installed as a system app

Ah, I see! Thanks for trying. I did try APKs from APK Mirror and most did not even install and the ones that did wouldn't launch. This explains things.

Unfortunately all of these options require root.

Having updated to Android 14, the default Wallpapers & Styles app still can't seem to handle launching the emoji wallpaper creator.
