Airplane mode disables Wifi

When I enable airplane mode Wifi is disabled, as expected. However, if I then enable wifi while airplane mode is on, it doesn't remember this the next time I turn airplane mode on again. i.e., wifi is disabled until I manually re-enable it again.

I saw this thread and it was mentioned that:

Airplane mode does not force disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC. It also doesn't prevent using USB internet either. It only force disables cellular. If you enable Wi-Fi during airplane mode, it remembers that you want Wi-Fi enabled.

This doesn't appear to be happening for me. Is there something I have setup wrong? I'd like it to re-enable wifi automatically when I enable airplane mode (or just remember if I had wifi enabled the last time airplane mode was enabled).

Anybody know if I have something setup wrong for it not to remember that I had Wifi enabled during Airplane mode? I know Android 13 remembers, so just wondering why GOS isn't, especially when it was mentioned in the other thread that it does.

Not sure how to change this behavior but can confirm mine behaves the same way as yours is.

@spindlegranite You can fix this behavior with an adb command.

adb shell settings put global airplane_mode_radios 'cell,bluetooth,wimax'

This essentially just removes WiFi from the list of radios that get disabled when Airplane mode is enabled.

Thanks! I removed wifi from airplane_mode_radios and it now keeps wifi enabled when I turn airplane mode on -- revolutionary! ;)

One thing I did run into was I also removed bluetooth from airplane_mode_radios, and that broke bluetooth and left me unable to disable/enable bluetooth while airplane mode was on. See my post in https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/3917-cannot-toggle-bluetooth-when-airplane-mode-is-enabled/10 for anyone else that might have run into this as well. The "fix" was to re-add bluetooth to airplane_mode_radios. Yes, bluetooth gets disabled again when airplane mode is enabled, but at least I can toggle it once again while in airplane mode.

So supposedly the default behavior is supposed to be once you turn Wi-Fi on once during airplane mode it's supposed to stay on in the future.
