I am coming from an iPhone where I primarily used Apple maps for the past few months. Prior to that I used google maps for years. Live in major US city for reference.
I've been using magic earth on my graphene device, but it has gotten me stuck in traffic a few times (where google or apple maps would have re routed me) and recently when I had to get to the hospital it took me to the wrong entrance. Where I live an accident can come by suprise and due to the roads you can get stuck for hours if you don't get routed around. It's very frustrating and inconvenient to not have a maps app that can route me around this.
Magic Earth also does not work well for searching places (restaurants, etc.)
I have all google play services installed and I do not want to have to switch profiles for apps.
I've got a few solutions in my head, but if someone else has a better solution I am all ears.
Install Google maps PWA for searching for places and use magic earth for turn-by-turn navigation. I'll just have to accept that the routing isn't the best.
1.a. Is there any privacy implications to using the PWA of google maps?
Install Google Maps app via Aurora store, revoke all permissions and only allow location and network while using. This would "invade" my privacy while using the app but would provide the best turn-by-turn navigation and I can revoke the permissions (or disable the app) when not using it.
2.a. Would google maps still be able to call out when all permissions are revoked via trusted app communications with google services/ play store?
2.b. What is the difference between disabling an app and simply killing the running processes of the app?
I'm open to other suggestions as well. This is the main thing that's still keeping me from completely ditching my iPhone (I currently carry both devices) as if I need to get somewhere in an emergency I will give up a little privacy to use Apple maps or even google maps if I have to.
