  • Google geolocation & wakelock issue

Good morning to all the respected GrapheneOS users and moderators.
First of all, I would like to thank the developers for making such an amazing software and offering it for free.
Yesterday I flashed GrapheneOS on my Pixel 7a and I am loving it so far. I like the fact that I can use Google Play Store and Play Services as normal user apps and prevent them from snooping on other apps. However, Google Play Services is constantly taking location access in every 2 minutes "For developer features". I know I have enabled Google geolocation and Google location accuracy, but is it a normal behavior for Play Services to use location every 2 minutes? Also the idle drain is 0.8-1% per hour with the System updater keeps checking for OTA updates multiple times throughout the night and causing partial wakelocks. Is there anyway to force the system updater to check for OTA update once a day or only manually? Sorry but this is the first time I am using GrapheneOS and I think it is best to take help from experienced users here instead of bitching on XDA, Reddit, YouTube etc.

Thanks in advance!

Currently, there are no manual settings for the system updater. If you wish you can go further and disable the system app named already "System Updater".

SoulKeeper Do you have apps that have Location permission set to “Allow all the time”?
When apps ask Play services for location, Play services shows up as the source of the location request, not the calling app.

muhomorr Makes sense. I think this is why Google Play Services is showing in location history instead of Uber, Google Maps, OpenWeather etc. I just wish there was a way to toggle off the green dot that indicates location permission. It blinks every 2 minutes (as I enabled Google location accuracy option) and shows on fullscreen mode as well when I watch movies etc. It's really annoying.
