Experiences with Gadgetbridge

There is this app called gadgetbridge.
I'm wondering if somebody is using it? What fitness tracker device are you using with it? Apparently not every supported deviced is supported in the same way as it says on the website: "(WARNING: Some of them WIP and some of them without maintainer)

I have been using gadgetbridge for years and I am very happy. I currently have an amazfit gts2e, a zepp e and the sony wf xm4000's configured. I think there is no better option to use smatwaches without giving away your data to third parties.

I have been using it with my Pine Time and I havent had any big problems so far. I did have a issue where it would lose connection with the watch but that seems to be resolved by changing to the unrestricted battery usage setting in app info.

I would like to use it, but Gadgetbridge can't find my device -> GTR4

hummingtop I don't use Gadgetbridge, so this is just a guess. Have you granted the app the nearby devices permission?

I made the jump myself, and so far so good. It's great having such an active community participating w/ the Nightly releases. All future wearable devices I purchase will be based on compatibility w/ Gadgetbridge

For me, I bought an Amazfit Active 2 after seeing numerous glowing YouTube reviews and after the inital setup, replaced the Zepp app w/ Gadgetbridge.

Some LPTs

I couldn't do the initial sync w/ the watch when I installed the ZeppOS app in a Private Space.
Workout templates are actually pretty good but missing in Gadgetbridge, so you might want to set those up in advance. Otherwise, you have to reinstall Zepp app again to do it and either share your data or factory reset and get a new token
As someone who prefers to check their phone for messages on my own time, I have gadgetbridge installed on a tablet instead. I cannot send/receive texts as a result, but I have a longer battery and less unwanted distractions

dhhdjbd Battery is still good, but it did get some subpar review for sleep & workout tracking from a YT channel that does deep dives. If you are a workout junkie that cares a lot about accuracy, you might want to look elsewhere, but it's otherwise good enough. I use it for cycling et al, but just a heads up.

Also, I got the less expensive version and it got scratches on it within the first week, so I recommend getting a protective film or the more expensive version if scratches will irritate you.

I'm considering getting an amazfit watch.
I had a withings watch and I could use the app/watch after the initial setup normally with no internet access.
Did/ can u try the same with zepp app?

The watch only needs internet for the setup process w/ Zepp App.

The process is explained here but the rough outline is:

Install the ZeppOS app and connect your device so that your UUID is saved to the server
Take that UUID and pair it to Gadgetbridge
Delete Zepp App from your phone and use Gadgetbridge moving forward

For me, I never connect my watch to my phone, let alone the internet. About 2x a week, I turn on bluetooth and connect it to my tablet running Gadgetbridge app and do two things:

Upload workouts to the gadgetbridge app
Upload GPS data to the watch itself (via python script I run on my server). This isn't necessary, but allows your watch to find GPS faster

I dumped a Pixel Watch 4 for a Gamin Vivoactive 6 with Gadgetbridge.

Privacy aside, I hated the Pixel Watch: the battery life sucked and the band was so uncomfortable, it caused so many sensory AuDHD issues. I could light it on fire and I'd be better off, I'll take a Huawei watch over it, assuming I can use Gadgetbridge and it's not uncomfortable.

The Vivoactive is more comfortable and lasts longer. Yes, it's "clunkier" but much more practical. It's a Lexus instead of a Range Rover. Yes, a Range Rover is sleeker but a Lexus is still more reliable and dependable.

Gadgetbridge is an awesome app. I was uncomfortable using a Pixel watch for tracking alone, not to mention if GOS dies I might buy an iPhone (if I hate the iPhone I'll use a stock Pixel, considering OnePlus died). I don't want to be tied to one vendor, and the same applies to an Apple watch (even if I switch to an iPhone I can't guarantee I'll only buy iPhones going forward).
