In recent weeks, there have been rumors about an upcoming feature in Android 14 called Advanced Memory Protection.
This feature would require a new hardware feature inside the upcoming Tensor Chips, expected to be part of the Pixel 8.
Reading about these rumors, one may get the impression that with the release of the Pixel 8 and Android 14, memory corruption vulnerabilities will be a thing of the past.
There may be quite a few like me who are wondering if this new feature is worth waiting for the Pixel 8, therefore I am hoping to get a response from any GOS developers about this feature and what is is likely to provide.
Is this going to be a game changer or mostly PR?
And if it is useful, will it:
- work automatically
- require significant parts of code to be rewritten over time
- require all of Android and every app to be rewritten to benefit from this.
Basically the question is how much of an actual benefit this feature will bring and how long it would take until it can actually be used in GOS.
Thank you
