WiFi and Hotspot aren't working in Syria

As the title suggests, WiFi networks aren't discoverable and Hotspot cannot be activated when I'm in Syria. Turning off GPS (or turning on Airplane mode) and restarting the device fixes the problem, but turning the GPS immediately make the problem appear again.

Is there any solution to that?

I want through hell to get this smartphone imported with the specific purpose of using GrapheneOS, and now I find myself in this very weird situation.

eatonlamberto I hate to say this, but it sounds like a hardware problem is possible.

If by GPS you mean the positioning system (some here use it to mean Google Play Services), I believe the frequency is close to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The device should be able to separate, but if something's wrong maybe not.

Do 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks work with GPS on? If the conflict is solely between GPS and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi that might be particularly indicative of a hardware problem.

Outside Syria, everything is working fine, so I'm quite sure it's not a hardware problem.

To answer your question, nothing works (neither 2.4 or 5 are discoverable).

That is odd. I wonder if somehow the Wi-Fi country-specific channel-restriction system is going awry?

I find it odd too, but also very interesting and I hope GrapheneOS maintainers will find it interesting as well.

The irony here is that my GitHub account was restricted a while back (spoiler alert: because Syria), but I think I'm still able to contribute to public repositories and file bugs.
