Sharing files between user profiles?

I just was hoping for a simplier way: some common "exchange" folder or some.

The use case would be passing photos taken within owner towards a profile where messaging apps reside.

What I started doing is carrying an USB and that adapter with me for situations like that. It might sound like a hassle at first but maybe you can get used to it.

dc32f0cfe84def651e0e I installed Element on two user profiles with a different account logged in to each instance. I send photos etc to the other profile through a chat between these two accounts. If you want the photos to retain their image size/quality, you have to tick the "send in original size" box when sending, or zip them in profile 1, send them and unzip them in profile 2.

This is probably one the most convenient options that doesn't involve setting up some kind of cloud. Maybe other messenging apps would be even more convenient for this, like Telegram, but Element is end-to-end encrypted.

You might also send the pictures to yourself through a messaging app present on both porfiles.

Eirikr70 The whole point is to have a separate profile for messaging apps. The Owner only is for regular nothing-to-hide contents.

Syncthing. My setup is a synced folder between the profiles and my PC. The PC is set as untrusted so it only receives encrypted data, and the only job is to serve as an anchor between profiles.

The PC could be a NAS, server, phone or anything that runs syncthing.

Like if you set custom ports for each profile instance?

I use SFTP server set to only localhost.

I was never able to make it work between profiles.
Syncthing would complain and allow only one instance at the same time from the same phone.

So I need the outside device.

Just to clarify I didn’t try other ports like you mentioned.

Graphite I have two instances of syncthing running on the same phone in different profiles. For the second profile I change the ports used in the web GUI and then it works fine and I can create a shared folder for the profiles. It probably works with even more profiles as long as you have enough free ports available.

qubit syncthing-fork just worked without having to chanhe any settings when installed in two user profiles.

Did you confirm they sync directly without needing a 3rd external host?

syncthing-fork, IIRC didn't change default ports.

The most secure way that I have found (for me) is to use proton drive on each user account. photos can be set to backup and you can move files into the drive app from your files app and it will sync

Proton has been... unreliable... about actually open-sourcing their apps, and keeping their open-sourced files up to date so people can build the apps themselves to double-check Proton and make sure they aren't pulling any funny business.

They also have been caught pinging google... Though to be fair, it is for reasons and within contexts I don't claim to understand, but that looks like a red flag to me.

Maybe these errors are good-faith mistakes, maybe they aren't. I personally am migrating to Tuta email and calendar.

I intend to use syncthing-fork for the rare occasions I need to move stuff between profiles, and for backups, when I get around to all that.
