I need RCS messaging, so I compromised my privacy by downloading Google Messages. I've also got sandboxed Google Play Services, Google framework, and Play Store, and gave Google play services limited permissions: Network, Phone, and SMS. Google Messages has these permissions: SMS, Phone, Notifications, and Network. I set up Contact Scopes with my regular text contacts to keep google from prying into the rest of my contact list. I made Google Messages my default message app, and activated RCS and it connected just fine. Only problem is that now names don't show up in my text list, only phone numbers.
I also tested contact scopes on the GOS phone app, the same thing occurs, the names disappear from the listing. When I remove storage scopes, the names reappear on the phone app. It seems to be Contact Scopes that is the problem. Any one else experience this? Can it be resolved without giving Google Messages full access to my contacts?
