GrapheneOS can people contribute to that database? Nearly all my apps run fine with MTE

Eris If it doesn't end up getting MTE support then we're not going to be supporting it. We aren't going to assume it will get MTE support, add preliminary support for it and then have to drop support for the device in December 2026 if it doesn't end up shipping. We're not going to support a new device without MTE for around 7 years. That would mean around 6 extra years of supporting devices without MTE. We're not going to finish adding support for it until we know we can support it. We're definitely not going to prematurely publish support for a device we end up being unable to support. It would be a disaster to do that and have a bunch of people buy it who then have to return it, sell it or switch back to the stock OS. Why would we take that huge risk?

If Google is actively anti-developer, why would you waste hours developing for their devices when you could be putting that time into a new Dialer app or literally anything?

Excluding it makes perfect sense IMO.

wuseman I slightly disagree. If the next Pixel line isn't supported by GrapheneOS, there may be no hardware available on the market to run it on.

What we do know about Motorola:

Signature 27 is declared to support GrapheneOS.
It will cost about or more then the current Signature edition, which is around twice the price of Pixel 10. Sorry, people will switch to iPhones for that price.
The security of the first GOS compatible divices will be slightly lower compared to Google Tensor.

Per the GOS FAQ:

Support for using alternate operating systems including full hardware security functionality

A little fuzzy description given the landscape of devices today, but I have to assume that requiring the boot loader to be unlocked AND locked again is going to be a core requirement for GOS to even think about supporting the device.

Could Motorola decide to make people jump through hoops like they do now to allow unlocking? Yes, but I cannot imagine the GOS team would ever find that remotely acceptable from a privacy and security standpoint. Like I've said on other threads, I trust the GOS team but have zero trust in Motorola. This is also why I think it's wise to not rush headfirst into buying the new phone until every detail is finalized and confirmed by GOS. Motorola could very easily end up botching this whole partnership in too many different ways.

GrapheneOS i'm willing to bet that they scrapped MTE. To make that stupidly over-engineered LED "Hilight" feature that only lights up when you have notifications with Google messages or talk to Gemini.. 🙄🙄

008 MTE will be available in the December QPR. Just trust me. GrapheneOS has explained very well what they will do if it is — and what they will do if it isn’t. So we just have to wait. 🤷

If google does add MTE support in december, roughly how long would it take for a public version of graphene? Would it be several months afterward, or is the majority of the work already done and release could be sooner after?

I'm still a bit confused on the hardware side of this. From what I can tell, it seems the Pixel 11 has the hardware capability for MTE, but the firmware is missing? Is the problem that we don't know if MTE will have a big enough performance hit (or other problem) for google to decide against supporting it entirely? Is it a realistic outcome that they just never support it for the 11?

tux_ Well, I do not agree either, @funktastic generalised. I am only wating for Motorola Razr 2027 flip phone to come, so that I could start using Graphene OS, as personally I would not touch pixel with a long stick as they come from google that I hate... So, they might be surprised as there will be more people like me. And in 2028 cheaper Motorola handsets may start coming with the upgraded Snapdragon chipset. They say that is their plan.
