Pixel 11 doesn't yet meet the GrapheneOS security standards and may be skipped

Is the Pixel 10a as stable as previous Pixel models? I recall a recent post by the Graphene OS team mentioning that the 10a is much more difficult to work with because Google hasn’t released its source code. Furthermore, the post mentioned that even today there are still bugs and various issues. If anyone remembers that post, please share it, as I can’t find it anymore.

I think that's off-topic for a thread about MTE support on the Pixel 11.

I believe a web search for site:discuss.grapheneos.org 10a stable will turn up opinions about 10a stability, which has nothing to do with MTE on the Pixel 11.

This thread is busy enough without turning it into a thread for all questions about everything.

de0u You're right, but the discussion in this thread has turned into a search for alternatives when buying a new phone, because of the lack of MTE support on the Pixel 11.

MTE is currently available in the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 firmware where it's possible to enable it so as long as that remains the case we can support the Pixel 11. We aren't sure if we should release support for it before Android 17 QPR2 is out unless they provide reassurance that MTE is going to be officially supported because we want to make sure it will be fine.

"Support" does not yet exist -- there isn't even an alpha release on the Releases page, let alone a stable release.

Some pre-alpha code running that may not turn out to be shippable (wizoatk) is not "support".

freshop2012 It is possible that the reason Google didn't ship MTE when the Pixel 11 was released is that their quality-control testing wasn't done yet. The A17 QPR2 beta-test firmware may be part of a testing process. If that testing fails, then the stable A17 QPR2 firmware may not contain MTE.

All that is known now is that the necessary ingredients for GrapheneOS to support the Pixel 11 are not yet available. Perhaps it will work out, but perhaps it won't.

Edit: perhaps Google will clear up the situation before December. But if what's happening now is testing a feature they aren't confident about then maybe they will remain silent.

But I wanted to caution people against interpreting that as "It'll definitely be fine in December". December isn't really a deadline for Google, and "It'll be fine eventually" is not known.

Cellobright I am certain Graphene Foundation stated their preferred way to go ahead with Motorola would be for the phones to be sold with their OS pre-loaded. Bear in mind google would never sell their own phone with an alternative OS but Motorola could. Let's just wait and see 🙂

Sigh...All of this rigmarole indicates that GOS and GOS users would simply be better off leaving Google, and going with Motorola.

Bummer, I wanted and waited for them to release the Pixel 11 pro xl with 512gb+ due to it having 16 gb for what ever reason.

However that being said, not sure if one single minor feature that is cut is enough for the Grapheneos not being on the pixel 11 line up. Yeah MTE is not there nor enabled but Google Pixel 11s should still have the same installation as pixel 10s and below. I believe that someone can enable or create MTE into Grapheneos (or not) and that'll be a good work around.

All im saying is that if the Pixel 11s are FROM the pixel family AND from google then pixel 11s would have the right to be with the GrapheneOS installable pixels family like a new family member. Hell add feature from GrapheneOS for the Pixel 11s like the LED light in the back to glow a GrapheneOS logo.

Please give the pixel 11 line up a chance, we've waiting for motorola's phones with Grapheneos aswell but if nothing announced for a while then add pixel 11 for the people into this please 🙏
