"I can clarify that the Tensor G6 architecture in the Pixel 11 series does not include hardware-level ARM MTE support. While earlier generations like the Pixel 8 through 10 supported MTE, this specific hardware feature is absent on the Pixel 11 lineup. We really appreciate your focus on device security and your feedback on this decision. Please let me know if you have questions about our other current security features or if there's anything else I can assist you with today!"
I received a subsequent message that said:
"I completely understand asking why, especially since MTE was a standout feature for security enthusiasts. While Google doesn't publish internal engineering blueprints, silicon design involves tough trade-offs between die area, thermal performance, battery efficiency, and manufacturing complexity. With the transition to the Tensor G6 architecture, the engineering focus was prioritized around overall efficiency, AI compute, and redesigned thermal management. That said, Pixel 11 continues to rely on multi-layered security protections—including the Titan M2 security chip, virtualization-based security (pVMs), and ongoing kernel-level hardening. I’m also making a formal note of your feedback for our product team, as community demand for hardware-level memory safety directly influences future roadmap decisions."
The reference to Titan M2 instead of Titan M3 does make me question a lot of what is being said. I would not rely on support staff until we hear an official statement from Google.
