GOS Text Messaging Issues - Intermittently Wont Send or Load

I have a Pixel 9 Pro XL and have been using GOS since December 2025 and I'm not very techy, so I apologize in advance if I don't use the correct wording. I dont use any Google Play or Google apps in my "daily" user profile - I only use stock GOS & several open source apps in this profile. My GOS Messaging App in this profile has all permissions. Since 8/15/26, I have had intermittent issues with texts not sending out. I'll be texting back and forth with 1 person and mid-conversation, I go to reply and get an error "Not sent. Tap to try again". I will tap to send it again , and it will never go out. I then start a new text to the same person and it will go out. Not being able to send texts to a single person is intermittent, but since the 15th, I cant send any group texts or send pictures at all. I use the stock GOS camera, and the image quality is at 50%, and I dont use the highest photo resolution. What's weird, is I can go out of my "daily" profile to the 1st profile, and view my texts and there is no error message showing - it looks like the text was sent. Since all looks normal in my 1st profile, I call my friend and they confirm they didn't get my text, so I dont know why my 1st profile looks like everything is fine and the texts were sent, but my 2nd "daily" profile shows the texts didn't go out. I reached out by chat to my carrier to see if they were having issues and we reset the carrier information and it didn't solve anything. I haven't made any changes to my settings or my apps in my 2nd "daily" profile, except in early August I downloaded Aves for organizing my photos, and FUTO keyboard so I can voice-to-text.

Also, for the last 6 months, intermittently pictures I receive via text don't load. When I open the text to see it, the only thing that appears is an empty text box. I receive pictures from people all the time, but every once in a while, only an empty box loads. Why? It happened today from someone, but yesterday I received texted pictures without issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on and how I can fix this? Thank you!

Got2CJC3 I recommend trying this app instead of stock messages: https://github.com/FossifyOrg/Messages/releases
It has a setting to limit the MMS picture size, I set mine at 600Kb.

If it doesn't work, maybe a single profile 'Owner-only' setup would.

Keep your device updated, and reboot daily.

Got2CJC3 I was experiencing before issues with the GOS Messaging App too and the solution was to just use another app, it was the one that Novaliss suggests you, try it out.

Don't forget to set it as the "Default SMS app".

Also on secondary user profiles for SMS to work don't forget to enable "Turn on phone calls & SMS" from the Owner profile in "Manage users".

DeletedUser1111 Thanks for the suggestions. I cleared the storage and cache of the GOS Messaging app, and reboot the phone daily. I also downloaded the Fossify Messaging app, made sure it has all the permissions, and still have the same problems. I don't think using the GOS Messages app in the Owner profile will solve the problem either, because in the Owner profile, it shows the messages were sent, when they weren't really sent.

I meant, if you're using secondary profile, toogle on "Turn on phone calls & SMS" from the Owner profile in "Manage users" for that secondary profile you're using.

DeletedUser1111 Yes, Fossify Messaging app is set as the default SMS app in my "Daily profile" . Also, "Turn on phone calls & SMS" is enabled in the Owner profile for my "Daily" profile. Errors when sending texts to one number seems less frequent than when I try to send group texts or pictures.... I'd say 0% of texts I send to a group or with a picture will go out.... 80% of texts I try to send to one number will go out (and seems to have issues after I try sending a picture or group text to someone else.... its like the text queue is clogged and preventing the single texts from going out). When I send group texts from the Fossify Messaging app, its set to "send group messages as MMS" and and "resize sent MMS images to 200KB". Group messages are set to go out to all recipients on the same text (not delivered individually).

Got2CJC3 UPDATE: I think there is something not turned on correctly with my MMS. I just read about MMS, and decided to turn on my counter to see how many characters the texts are, and texts to 1 number over 160 characters wont send, and all texts with pictures and group texts wont send. Texts to 1 number under 160 characters send fine. I also figured out why I wasnt getting errors messages in my Owner profile - I didnt have delivery reports enabled. Once I enabled it in the Owner profile, I saw an error that read "Message not sent. Service not activated on network". In the owner profile, I went to NETWORK & SETTINGS > SIMs > WIRELESS and checked all the carrier settings and they look fine. Im set to the right mobile network (US Mobile) VoLTE is enabled, Preferred carrier type is LTE only, Automatically Select Network is enabled, the APN is set to the right carrier and I went over the settings with the carrier and its correct. 2G Protection is disabled, of Vo5G is enabled. Also, on the NETWORK & SETTINGS page, ESIM support is on, Data Saver is off, the VPN shows Mullvad, Private DNS automatic, Internet connectivity checks is GOS, Mobile Network Security has Network Notifications enabled, Certificate Transparency is GOS, Attestation Key Provisioning is GOS, Widevine Provisioning is GOS. I'll contact the carrier again about the Carrier Setting Overrides because we didn't go over those settings, and report back.

de0u I reached out to the carrier again (US Mobile utilizing the T-Mobile network) and told them about the MMS issues and the error "message not sent. service not activated on network". We toggled airplane mode off/on, turned off the VPN, reset and re-provisioned my data and the MMS network, verified the setting configurations, reset the APN, set up a test APN with a different T-mobile plan, they gave me a new eSIM and phone number to try & I tried MMS with this new line, rebooted my phone several times throughout the process, and the MMS messages still wont send (I no longer have the "message not sent. service not activated on network" error.... that only happened once today.... Im back to getting the original error when the problem first started "not sent. Tap to try again"). I cant send MMS from both GOS Messaging and Fossify Messages apps in my daily profile, or GOS Messaging in my Owner profile.

They said they tried everything and they have no idea why MMS isnt working and everything is fine from their side. I asked a friend who uses US Mobile if he's having problems and he said he checked with his friends who also use US Mobile and none are having problems. Since the last GOS update was 8/13/26 and I noticed the MMS issues 8/15/26, could the GOS update have created the problem with just my phone? I would think if it was an GOS update issue the problem would be widespread. I don't know what to do.

Per instructions I found online at Twilio tonight, they said "Sometimes the stock AOSP Messaging app or Google Messages app jams up the queue when multi-part messages get stuck" and suggested I go to the stock GOS Messaging app's advanced settings, toggled the Auto Retrieve MMS messages off, send a picture, then turn it back on. I did this and sent a picture to my mom and I confirmed it was received!!!! I haven't been able to replicate it since, though. ;-(

I was able to get another MMS picture text through - this time I turned my preferred network from LTE to 3G, sent the MMS text with picture, then toggled it back to LTE as the preferred network, and my recipient confirmed the pic was received. So since I can toggle some settings and force the MMS through. I also found some other recent posts in the forum about MMS' failing related to the latest 2026081300 update, and it seems to be related to T-Mobile customers. I changed my phone to allow Beta updates, and requested US Mobile to send me a SIM for the Verizon network instead of the T-Mobile network so I can see if that works.

Me too...no idea why.

Last normal behavior I got off of default GOS texting app across profiles was 7/4.

I can't prove it was the 07/5/26 update that flipped the switch on my 9 Pro XL, but...

I still haven't figured out what setting to manipulate (if that's possible), or if it's a network setting (T-Mobile>Tello), or what...

As a result, anyone who's not on Signal (which works perfectly, plus has emojis) doesn't really hear from me.

[Edit to add: my first non-iPhone phone was a leaves-a-lot-to-be-desired phone v3 from a guy whose name rhymes with Fob Waxman and it had almost an identical problem on iodeOS using both the default texting app and the FOSS texting app...same sim--T-Mobile>Tello]

I am having all of the same issues. I find that I cant receive messages thar are group text (except random intermittent ones). Definitely following. I am using Verizon

Latest Update: I have been using 1 eSIM and 1 physical SIM, and I still cant send pictures or group texts from my secondary profiles using either SIM. However, a few days ago, I was able to send pictures from my Owner Profile, and so now sending pix is working only from the Owner, but none of the secondary profiles. Im not sure what to do except start using my Owner Profile, but I'd prefer not to. I added a comment on Github issue# 8566 which is about the same subject on build 2026081301, and I sent my logs to Graphene. Hopefully this gets resolved.

Wonderful news about MMS issues in secondary profile. On Github, @thestinger posted "This has been resolved for the next security preview OS release". I'm so very happy! Thank you all so much for what you do! Its wonderful being a part of such a community! Looking forward to the release!
