Issues getting ProtonVPN app via F-Droid to work on GrapheneOS

Has anyone else had this issue? I installed Proton VPN via F-Droid on all of my GOS profiles (I have 3 profiles, I installed Proton on the other two via the install available apps function) and while it says it is connected and functioning, no web pages will load in Vanadium or Firefox. Apps like Slack are also unable to connect to the internet across all profiles.

I've troubleshot the following:

Turning the phone's DNS from Automatic to Off

Ensuring that each GOS profile has the same build of Proton VPN installed, same settings, connected to the same country

Always On VPN on, but Block non-VPN connections off

Ensure GOS and ProtonVPN are updated

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I haven't had issues with Proton VPN elsewhere.

I use the github version in Obtanium and it works great. That's what I'd recommend doing.

saturnusxii That's weird. Have you tried any other VPN apps just for testing purposes?

skully373 Yes, I was using Mullvad VPN before this and it worked perfectly fine on all profiles.

saturnusxii this is probably not going to help since you reinstalled it but try going in to app info and clear storage and cache and then sign in again

Also, do you have any custom DNS configured inside ProtonVPN?

Also it's worth trying toggling IPV6 on or off inside Proton advanced settings. And while youre at it, maybe toggle alternative routing as well.

I honestly have no clue what's going on so I'm suggesting the kitchen sink approach.

saturnusxii does the log say anything useful? Either the in app ones or the GrapheneOS based ones under app info?

GrapheneOS-Jub what about ProtonVPN itself network permissions? Didn't even think of that but that's like the obvious first thing to check. Good call.

Also, F-Droid distributes the dev's build if they release one -- github is identical to F-Droid.

P9PXL here. ProtoVPN is working fine on all 3 profiles. Kill switches enable.

Do you have a internet connection above 15 mb/s when connecting to the proton vpn servers?
If thats not the case, the vpn will not correctly connect and the websites won't load. Even if the proton vpn shows that it's connected.
Also the kill switch can cause some troubles.

It's not ProtonVPN free, right?
Since I use the free version, when I forget to turn off ProtonVPN in the pc, the app will say its connected but nothing will work.

Proton provides Wireguard config files. I would suggest that you use the official Wireguard app, which is vendor-agnostic, instead.

tux_ Yeah, I use the WG config files in rethink and it works great that way
