Desperate with the battery drain of Telegram FOSS

Good morning, I am writing because I am desperate with the consumption in the background of Telegram FOSS, I receive push notifications correctly, but the consumption is getting higher and higher. I imagine it will be associated with being part of more and more groups, I have tried silencing most of them, but the consumption is the same.
Is there any safe telegram foss fork that uses another push notification system?

I understand that the simple solution would be to install the official Telegram client (downloading the apk from their website) and sandboxes play services limiting their permissions, although I always wanted to avoid installing GPS in my main profile.

There is nothing wrong with it. It seems pretty normal, since it spans longer period of time. Stop worrying

I think you are not interpreting the graph correctly, in the 2nd for example, for the 2h, 3h and 38m of battery analyzed, telegram foss has consumed 41%, and the active screen (5h 36m, because the screen is not always active) 21%.

Sometimes I manually closed telegram foss and a considerable battery saving was noticed.

I confirm the Telegram FOSS version has absolutely unacceptable and terrible battery life drain. I've not seen any other app be so power hungry while running in the background, ever. This was the first time I needed to actively find an alternate app solution due to excessive battery usage.

Nekogram X was what I migrated to, and it fully resolved the battery drain problem. It works well for my use case, and is also an open source app available through the F-Droid repositories. So far, I would give it a recommendation though this is based on admittedly limited use. Hope this is helpful & good luck.

Telegram foss is probably using websockets for notifications, rather than FCM, which is optimised superbly for minimising battery drain. Go and use nekogram like Shendai says, its also got more features and customisations than the stock Telegram app.
Same thing happens to signal when it falls back to websocket notifications, huge battery drain issues.

Telegram is a terrible app on every platform, even their web version is terrible when it comes to power consumption. Many of their users were asking them to fix the battery drain for ages, I remember seeing that issue in 2017 and now they've released a "fix" with their new update but wait for the dev of Telegram FOSS to follow up and update their app to have that feature. I hate how Telegram is not replying when you have issues with their service or clients, there was the time they were giving patronising attitudes on hackernews
