Quantum Is RCS really a successor to SMS/MMS?
Yeah, I'd say RCS fits the requirements of succession.
- Both are communication between phone numbers.
- Once RCS is enabled, SMS is no longer used -- except as a fallback -- but they aren't used simultaneously. It's a replacement.
It's a similar story for computer monitor cables. VGA cables (parallel, analog signal) were succeeded by HDMI (serial, digital signal). Different transport details but succession nonetheless. I could fallback to VGA if my HDMI port broke.
(Let's just ignore DVI-I being analog and digital, but you get the point: out with the old, in with the new.)
Quantum Isnt it closer a messenger like whatsapp or facebook messenger as it works over IP?
yes
Why not just use a different messenger then?
At least in the USA, texting a phone number is widely used still. Not everyone can obtain a success story of getting all or most contacts to switch to a different messenger -- everyone has their various answers to the above question.
