Phone turns off when face down

I am having an issue where if I place my phone face down, the screen turns off after 10 seconds. I have my timeout set to 30 minutes, so this must be some feature that detects when your phone is placed face down and turns it off. I do not want this. How can I disable this feature?

Screen on a surface, the proximity sensor is blocked and turns off the screen. Normal "trouser pockets" behaviour.

Not on GrapheneOS, because it's not a standard option in AOSP settings. Some manufacturers add an option to allow/prevent this behaviour.

Kamika242 I just tested this and it did turn off the screen. I believed I knew all such features by now but this was a first.🫨

On GrapheneOS it's enabled by default and that's good. On nearly every previous device I had to enable this option in the settings first or your phone possible takes on a life of it's own in your trouser pocket.

Kamika242 you do know it just turns off the screen, right? The moment when screen touches the leg in thet pocket, it turns on and 'lives own life'. Especially when moving.
It is not locked.

No, the blocked proximity sensor (maybe in cooperation with the brightness sensor) prevents this behaviour and I never ever had this problem with my GrapheneOS-Pixel. I have "tap to wake screen" enabled.

I tap the screen and it turns on. Unlocked.
Tap to wake is enabled.

Now, you lift your phone after some time, thinking it is locked, and put it into pocket. Movement and moisture in warmer day is enough the screen to be touched by leg and turn the screen on. Then the own life and tapping begins.

When you have lifted up your phone, the proximity sensor is free again and touch input is possible again.

It's the same behaviour as when you keep your phone to your ear for a call, the proximity sensor turns off the screen and the touch functionality, so you won't have operational errors when touching the screen with parts of your face while calling.

I think adjust this to not have it be unlocked after tapping.

settings > search timeout > lock after screen timeout

I have it on 5 seconds. It goes up to 30 minutes.

Ah, this makes it more clear. I will try this now, you will get an answer soon, if I can watch this behaviour too.

Edit: Can't confirm. My screen timeout is set to 2 min and when I pick up the phone within or after these two minutes, the phone is locked.

Well, anyways, this is not the problem, the problem here is irritanting thing of 10 second face down, which overrides display setting and cannot be changed.

In my case - now it is 25 indoors, put phone into quite skinny pants, did 20 situps. Thats it, lap was interacting with the screen....

It might be the "lock phone after xx when screen turns off" function which was mentioned by @Johnnyloans which makes the phone staying unlocked, but nevertheless, I never had this "own life" thing of my Pixel in a trousers pocket. I have the media player on lock screen option enabled and there never has been an unwanted title jump or something else in the pocket, but had such on some previous phones.

This is not the point. I just speed up things. This autonomy can start in a hot day just simply walking wearing shorts.
The johnyloans setting is also questionable - why it is thrown somewhere hell knows where, instead of being where it should be - in display settings?...
I still cannot find the place where this setting is. Only with search. Not normal.

Found it.
It is under security section. And yes, if I go there, I have to enter my password, and if I just enter the setting in search, I can adjust it without password.
