Alarm/Timer sounds are very quiet

Bought a 2nd hand pixel 8 and installed Graphene on it. The sound works generally ok, playing music is fine and new text notifications are ok. I've raised all sound levels to their highest level.

But my alarm and timer notifications are just so quiet. I'm not sure why they aren't louder, the default stock sounds are ok (although I feel like they could be louder if I'm on the loudest sound levels) but using short mp3 clips are super quiet. I've used these mp3 clips on other phones (with Android) and they are much louder.

Does Graphene have some thing about using mp3s with timers/alarms ?

There is a separate sound adjustment bar within clock app, three dots above, right side

Thanks! I've messed with that, set the alarm volume to max, and also set all of the sound settings (even Assistant Volume) to max. Yet if I use an mp3 for the alarm, the alarm is much quieter than if I play the mp3 with some audio player.
