Hey all, long time lurker here who finally decided to make his first post.
Firstly, thanks to all the devs for all your hard work! Your work is so greatly appreciated and I support in every way I can. It's an important project you got here!
Now for the post. I don't know if this is the place to post ideas/requests for the OS, if not, then I am sorry in advance.
On iPhone and iOS they have this great feature called Assistive Access. It's basically a simpler mode you can enter and lock behind a passcode. It is meant for seniors who only needs access to certain apps and doesn't need to go into confusing settings and such.
It's a mode that has been picked up by both parents and digital minimalists as a great way to hand children their first iPhone, with all the great features of a phone (messages, maps etc.) but without the distracting stuff (browser, SoMe etc.)
Now, I am not asking the devs to make a new UI for this on Graphene, that would be too much to ask for. But I have another idea of how this could be implemented.
For example: When the main/admin profile of the phone would create a new profile on the phone, then have a option to create a profile, where the main/admin user chooses which apps are Disabled in the apps settings and these apps can only be Enabled again with the password of the main/admin user. And maybe make it, so that the main user can push app updates to the "Child Profile/Admin Controlled Profile" like how Side Of Burritos does it in his App Update Setup. Or maybe choose which parts of the settings app is locked with main/admin password - so that for example the child can choose WiFi connections but not change a DNS setting for example.
This would allow to for example hand over a new GrapheneOS smartphone to a child with Vanadium disabled and with the necessary apps on that profile for it to function (i.e. Molly/Signal, CoMaps, Calendar) and push updates to these apps, but not allow the child to install apps without the admin permission and enable the browser.
I can see the potential of this both in terms of giving a child a new "dumb" smartphone or maybe giving your partner (or someone you trust) the admin password and then you can only access the "Admin Controlled Profile" if your wish to give yourself a less distracting/doom scrollable experience (disabling download of new apps and not being able to Enable Vanadium).
Let me hear what you guys think of this idea or if you think there is a way to achieve this kinda/sorta on GrapheneOS!
