I have had trouble getting WhatsApp to backup from local backup. I have followed various tips suggested across different sites including here but nothing has worked.

When the app installs, there is no option to give it permission to access storage. Also I can't see the Whatsapp files when I go to Files on my owner profile or secondary profile despite copying the file over into the directory on my computer. What do I need to do to get it to work

Has anyone tried restoring WhatsApp from Seedvault? What was your experience? If it works, it sounds like a plausible option. I haven't tried it myself, so can't tell.

I'd suggest using a thumb drive + the USB-C adapter that you got with your phone.

Copy your backup files to your thumb drive, then copy the files from the thumb drive to a folder called WhatsApp (in the root of your user/profile directory, the same folder with Pictures and Downloads)

Before launching WhatsApp, give it access to that folder using storage scopes. Go to Settings > Apps > All Apps > WhatsApp > Storage Scopes. If you don't see Storage Scopes, go to WhatsApp > Permissions > Photos and videos > configure storage scopes > turn on storage scopes. From there, tap "add folder" and navigate to the WhatsApp folder, open it, then tap "choose folder" at the bottom.

Next, launch WhatsApp and follow the steps on WhatsApp's website for restoring a local backup: https://faq.whatsapp.com/618575946635920/?cms_platform=android

I've never done this before, so hopefully this works for you!

        unwat It hasn't worked

When I open it and enter my number it just loads up without asking to back up at all (it doesn't even ask if I want to backup from Google)

I am confused, are trying to restore WhatsApp backup from Google Drive or from your local files?
