System UI has stopped working

I frequently get the System UI has stopped working pop-up. Choosing to wait buys around 5-10 seconds until the next one, choosing to close it takes me to the lock screen where from that point on, fingerprint unlocking no longer appears. Unlocking with the PIN takes me back to the stopped working pop-ups. Rebooting does not solve it. I haven't found a way to reproduce this, it disappears just as mysteriously as it appears. I can go a whole week without experiencing it just as much as have it every day.

I'm using build TQ1A.230205.002.2023030400 on my Pixel 7 Pro. The bug appeared somewhere between late December and early January, in the stable builds. I've had Graphene since the 7 release, installed through the web installer.

Please let me know how I can further gather data on this. Is a logcat helpful?

Did you by any chance tweak any permissions of any system app?
Do you use default launcher or something else?
Back up your data, just to be sure that if you perform factory reset you won't miss anything...

No, I didn't mess with any system apps. I set the Google camera to default but I left the stock one as it was. I'm using the stock launcher, never changed it. I have a "tidy owner" style configuration, where the main user is empty and I use secondary ones.

Is a global backup possible ?

Search for Seedvault in the search box.
It's functionality is not guaranted, and you can fine several comments about GOS team preparing better solution, but it is no available - at least to the public - yet. You can try that Seedvault app, but I would manually back up the important things to USB stick - calendar, contacts, notes, rss feeds, e-mail accounts and various settings in apps if it is possible. Better two back ups than one big sorry.

After creating your back up, you can search for factory reset in your settings, or sideload last available GOS update.
I have just noticed that you mentioned that you have a log. You can of course post your logcat, more knowledgeable people would look into it. Or you can try connect to matrix room and ask there. It can be faster...

I am getting this error on Pixel 4a the past couple of days after latest update.
