Casting to 2nd Gen Chromecast broken since 17

Simply, no app sees the 2nd Gen Chromecast after the recent Android 17 update. A phone on 16 works fine. This one, not so much. Likely an upstream bug/change - but thought I should mention it because it makes a big dent into how some of us use our devices.

So far have tested Google Chrome, Google Home, YouTube, Vanadium, etc. 2nd Gen CC devices simply don't appear at all.

Interestingly, in some apps - recent Roku devices appear - example: YouTube.

I had the same problem AND fixed it:

Go to settings - Security - data security - search for devices nearby - Google Play services - allow

Sorry, my OS isn't in English. You can find it also here: settings - apps - show all apps. Tap on "search apps" icon and search for "Google play services". Tap on "permissions" and then "search for nearby devices". Allow it.

penglix ok, I thought you might mean "nearby devices" - that's enabled and it still doesn't work at all and an android 16 device side by side works.

Same with spotify, worked on Android 16, doesn't work on Android 17

I had the same issue but doing the above fixed it.

Go into the permissions list for the Google Play Services app then set "nearby devices" to allow.

I did that and after restarting the phone, it is now working.

Seeing the same issue. All these apps have Network and Nearby Devices permission (and I've revoked/re-added and rebooted the device multiple times since).

ieuan you'll find an mdns (multicast dns) error in your logs if you look. Don't look unless you're curious - it's there 😉

I have the same problem here, android 17 build 2026062801. (pixel 10 pro xl)
I gave the Network and Nearby Devices rights and restarted the device.

It didn’t work, it worked with Android 16.

I have the same problem after one of the recent updates. Any ideas for fixes? chromecast icon simply stopped showing in all apps :(

Disable the nearby devices permission for google play services then allow it.

You need to do the same for YouTube for casting youtube videos.
and maybe for an app called google too.

I did this for netflix and google play services - and the chromecast icon now shows up.. BUT when I choose chromecast it does not see my devices (older version2 of chromecast). This all worked a few updates ago :(
any ideas for what more to try?

I figured I'd try to install google home and see if that worked... google home could see the chromecasts.. and then they also showed up in netflix.

annoying.. after an update - chromecast icon disappeared AGAIN. I've tried to remove nearby devices for both netflix and google play services.. and rebooted and given the permission again.. but it doesn't work anymore :(
Google home app can see the chromecast devices just fine.
