Hi, I've discovered recently (since the last update or two?) that the touch can become wholly unresponsive during some situations. This is not the touch screen becoming unresponsive, rather touch is being ignored.
When it happens:
- Physical buttons remain functional.
- The in-screen fingerprint sensor remains functional.
- Using the Back gesture remains functional (swiping in from the right or left edge of the screen).
But, that's it - all other touch activities remain unresponsive.
Some examples of what's impacted when it happens:
- Unable to "slide to cancel" when calling 911 (I was forced to test this out when trying to double-tap the Power button to start the camera, I had to tell the 911 operator that my phone was malfunctioning and it was not an emergency.)
- Unable to enter passcode to unlock phone
- Unable to swipe down to get to the Quick Settings to change settings or reboot phone
- Unable to interact with the Power menu (Emergency, Lockdown, Power off, Restart)
- Unable to do anything except: authenticate with the fingerprint reader, interact with connected devices or physical buttons on the phone itself, or perform the Back gesture
Here's some example scenarios of when I'm able to get the issue to occur.
- Having a pop-over video playing, then authenticating with the fingerprint reader. Easy example: using a 2FA/password app that allows logging in with biometrics while having a YouTube video playing on top. Once authenticated using the fingerprint reader, the issue occurs. Interestingly, you can still interact with the pop-over video, but not the app beneath it... or the home launcher... or the Quick Settings menu... you get the idea. The only fix in this case is to re-enter the video app normally, pause it, then swipe to go home.
- I just discovered this one: I swiped down to disable WiFi. The switch to disable WiFi seemed "unresponsive" (it didn't toggle off when touched) but the scrolling bar above it indicating the phone was scanning for networks would restart its scrolling animation anytime I touched the toggle. I accidentally pressed the Power button, the phone locked, and that was it - the issue began.
Needless to say, this is an enormous issue. If I can't get into whatever's causing it to occur (scenario 1 above), I can't stop the issue from happening, and I must hold Vol Up + Power to get the phone to shut off. Please let me know how I can help or if I need to recreate the issue somehow, whatever I can do to help fix this because it's a gigantic one. (I tagged this as "kernel" for the sake of visibility, not sure how accurate the tag is.)
