Ditching Google play services / few other questions

Hi,

I try to ask the questions with bulletins.

1) I currently only have a main profile with all my apps in there with google play services. Sometimes I notice play services are using up battery. I think all my apps that I have can run without the services.

But 1.1) will none of the notifications work anymore ? 1.2) can u just remove google play services on my main profile ? Or do I need to make a new one ? 1.3) when I just remove the services from my profile, and something goes wrong or doesn't work or I dont like it, can I just simply reinstall it in the main profile and have everything working again as before the uninstall?

I know I can make a new profile and "try" but that will cost a lot if time to switch everything over. Hence why I prefer to just uninstall.

I know notifications from one profile can be seen in the main profile right ? Does having 2 profiles drain battery significantly more ?

I have a normal Sim and an e Sim in my phone. The esim is a throwaway number. Does having both on and connected cause noticeable battery drainage compared to having the esim turned off?

Always check via search that the questions you are about to post haven't been answered already. In your case it have been... Just type "notifications" into search bar...

Any application that uses google for delivering notifications will not be able to notify you after removing google.
Some applications can deliver notifications in multiple manners depending on what it detected when it was first set up. For these, clear application data and see what happens.

Something has to poll servers for notifications. If you have many apps needing notifications, I would stick with Google services. But! I have arranged my life around one app that needs notifications, so I can get by not using them and just using unrestricted battery for that one particular app. Different people, different needs.

[deleted] Nothing should EVER poll for notifications. That's a sure fire battery killer. Receiving notifications should work based on server pushing the notification to the client, which simply requires a persistent TCP connection between the phone and the server. Two common approaches are SSE and Websockets. This approach has negligible impact on battery, and guarantees instant message delivery (not waiting until the next poll).

intelligence I am not an expert. All I know is I don't run sandboxed google, my whatsapp runs all the time and every 30 seconds pings its servers. Works well for me and I go through whole day with my battery charged to 80% before it drops to 20%. What's not to like? Fdroid wants to run always and has bigger battery impact.

JohnnyDoe No, you need to switch to software that does things correctly.

The modem used in pixel 6 series is not so good and in terms of battery consumption, if you can turn of one sim card it can reduce the battery impact but i not really sure how much the impact will be.
if you are normal user keep using only the owner profile, you are not going to achieve a lot using a secondary profile with google play and owner profile with only foss apps.
if you have apps like signal installed without google play it uses lot more battery than when installed with google play services.

Google services are not necessary for apps like WhatsApp and notifications work perfectly without any google service installed. It depends on an app so theres no simple answer or solution. If you want to use GoogleMaps and other things such as banking that are strictly tied to gapps then you need to keep them installed.

luks Gooble maps does NOT require gservices. It works perfectly fine standalone.
