catfish Oh, and this is after the update? I am using the following: WhatsApp v2.26.21.10 (262101000). I did a couple of tests on a different phone.

I checked which version of WhatsApp is available in the Aurora Store. The current version seems to be 2.26.20.72.
Instead of Install, I clicked on the option Manual Download.
Then I put in the following version number, 262101000, and clicked Install.
The installation took a while, but it did finish successfully.
Then I checked the version of WhatsApp, which was v2.26.21.10.
I then checked Aurora Store for any updates, but there were none, so Aurora sees the app as the current version.

Unfortunately, you cannot update WhatsApp this way, only do a fresh install, so you will have to delete your current WhatsApp and then reinstall it using this method. I wasn't able to test this fully, but I found it weird that the comments on this forum only mentioned a different version then I was using, and I myself am not having any issues with WhatsApp. One more thing to mention, the phone I used it on had the latest GrapheneOS-update and was not running Google Play Services.

Updated this morning off Google play. Maybe newest version has not been deployed to me yet. I'll post again if that changes (and if I remember lol)

I received a new WhatsApp update via Aurora Store.

Version: 2.26.21.75

Did any of you guys receive it and has it resolved the issues? I never had the issues, so I can't test it.

Guess what, after having installed the recent 2026060100 version today: the EXACT same problem again.

Exact same problem again for me as well. Some more details hoping they might be useful:
The problem reappeared between 8:40 and 9:50 UTC.
I installed GOS version 2026060100 around 6:30 UTC, no problems after that until 9:50 UTC.
Last time the problem appeared was exactly one week ago on Thursday May 28th after but not immediately after installing update 2026052400

main profile no play services , Whatsapp Business latest (2.26.21.75) (from Aurora store) i keep getting "Waiting for this message This may take a while" for most incoming and all outgoing messages

on private space : play services installed , same app and source , no problem

WhatsApp 2.26.21.75 from Aurora Store, installed in the Personal space of a secondary profile, without GPS.

Worked ok for years, but now I can only still message a subset of people and I've lost access completely to WhatsApp Web, I cannot link any more any device and I was forced to disconnect the one that I was using regularly, to avoid inconsistencies with my phone (with the error messages mentioned previously).

Following suggestions up-thread, I've installed sandboxed GPS without granting network permission, but it didn't solve anything :(

santy What works for me is starting the chat transfer to a second phone. This logs you basically out of WhatsApp on the first phone. You don't have to do the actual transfer, just abort the process before it starts. Then register your phone number again with the first telephone. This seems to "reinitialize" things and for me it's working then again. Remember to revoke the extra permissions WhatsApp asks for during the process.

I am doing this after each GrapheneOS release currently.

How exactly did you do this?
I will do the following, if you confirm:

Backup my chats via PC
Install WhatsApp in the hidden space via Playstore
Deinstall WhatsApp in the main profile
Install WhatsApp via their website apk
Setup WhatsApp in the hidden profile, but stop the setup process after entering my phone number
Setup WhatsApp on the main profile
If necessary, backup the chats from the PC

snafu Thanks @snafu. Just to confirm that this method worked for me. Although some of the sent messages in the queue (with the clock icon) were finally released and delivered, I cannot retrieve the incoming messages blocked with message "Waiting for this message. This may take a while." that it is still showing.

I could not link any device using WhatsApp Web with the QR code, whereas using the phone number worked. I have then removed GPS and the additional permissions and all seems to work ok for now (fingers crossed).

I fixed my issue by reinstalling via sandboxed play store. I couldn't restore any messages though, even locally.
I've also noticed I'm not getting signal messages until I open the app. Battery optimization is disabled

Seems that way. I'm running into the same issues since WhatsApp update 2.26.20.72 and onwards too: can't send/receive messages anymore ("waiting for this message" on most of the received messages). Haven't tried running the app with Google Play Services enabled yet, but good to know that that will likely fix it. Hoping there will also be be a non-GPS required fix though...

For me it's only WhatsApp btw, Signal still works fine without GPS (app version 8.13.2)

2.26.18.72 works fine and I'll leave it installed until further notice that the problem has been resolved. Maybe you guys can revert to this version instead.

On my end since it is still working fine. Still no GPS installed in the owner profile.
Since my last comment the only thing I changed is switching the WhatsApp installation to the website directly (using obtainium) instead of Aurora. It means I'm now using the 2.26.22.74.
I also got the latest GOS update and I'm not facing any issues.
You can try what I tried and hopefully it can work for you.

RandomGosSupporter Would you mind sharing your obtainium config for WhatsApp? I tried to get updates from whatsapp directly instead of from Play Services in Private Space, but couldn't figure out how to do it.
