While behind a VPN, websites are noticing that the VPN country is different than my actual country and suggesting to switch sites. This does not happen with Firefox. Please advise.

Delete the cookies and cached images in vanadium.

Websites can have access to: your timezone, language preference, and a list of known VPN servers to know that you're on a vpn.

If you're logged into an account you've made, that can give them a clue.

Examples of the global OS configuration available to apps are time zone, network country code and other similar global settings.

GrapheneOS Websites receive your enabled languages which are separately configurable in the browser and time zone. In many cases, that's enough to accurately guess the country. Apps are given the cellular region country code, which isn't shared with websites by Chromium-based browsers, but a native app can detect the cellular region. GrapheneOS plans to add a feature for spoofing a different value within a profile but there are a bunch of APIs for this and it has to be complete.

GrapheneOS Browsers normally send the configured time zone to each website. We plan to add a site setting to Vanadium for always sending UTC as the time zone, which we could enable by default and users could disable it for sites they want to know the time zone. The time zone sent by the browser is generic and refers to a time zone rather than a specific location in it.
