Default apps in Private Space

I've been using Quik as my default messaging app for SMS and MMS. However, I've noticed group messages where I am not receiving the full chat because it reverts to RCS.

I am trying to avoid Google messages. But it looks like there's no way around using that to receive RCS group messages.

I really do not want Google Play services or framework in my main primary (owner) profile.

I have installed Google messages into my owner profile's private space. However, I'm unable to select it as my default messaging app.

Is it possible to select a default app like Google Messages in the private space? I assume that the private space must always be left unlocked?

Any other options? I need to be able to access my messages quickly and they must accessible from the main owner profile.

For rcs,

RCS with Google Messages is currently only known to work in the Owner user profile.

I don't think it's possible to set a default SMS app in private space, the upstream profile handles that.
