GrapheneOS not receiving messages from (some?) iOS users

Hi! Installed GrapheneOS a couple of days ago and switched the SIM card from my old iPhone 6S to my P6P this morning. Didn't notice anything was wrong until I find out that my neighbor had been trying to text me, only to get no response. I now have no idea who is or isn't getting my text messages. Any ideas on how to fix this?

(P.S The title refers to a friend I successfully texted with who is an iPhone user, further adding to my confusion.)

By the way, I am using the stock messaging app from GrapheneOS.

Deadhead56 it's not always an immediate fix, you'll have to keep testing for the next couple hours: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102455

After you complete deregistration, your phone number is removed from iMessage services. You should be able to receive text messages right away but it might take a few hours for some Apple devices to recognize that you're not using iMessage when they send you a message.

Update: I have received a text message from neighbor, apparently he had to "set up my phone to talk to an android." Can someone explain what setting it is so I can tell all of my other iPhone contacts?

Not sure if it's still a thing but the iphone person edits your contact info. There's an option for if you are on iphone or not. The other option used to be called "mobile" a decade ago.

I think the other iphones will eventually get the hint from apple that you aren't on imessage anymore because you deregistered.

Seems like this worked for the most part. I've reached out to other people to let them know that I'm having issues receiving text messages at the moment. Apparently for some iPhone users they have to switch their settings to allow their phones to send SMS messages?

Makes sense. It's probably a global toggle. It's better user experience to use rcs instead of SMS
