RCS in Google Messages requesting new permissions to connect

So up until recently(last few weeks) rcs was working fine for me and then all of a sudden things changed with new updates of the messages app where it would not connect to rcs anymore in GOS. Up to this point what I have come up with is that I get a prompt to enable allow ICC and to give play services the phone permission as well for rcs to connect. I don't remember having to do this before and honestly theses permissions seem like they defeat the purpose of having google play sandboxed. If this is the case I will just use the stock sms app w/o rcs but I have noticed it seems like this has caused issues with sending and receiving messages to and from some of my contacts. I thought it was because my us cellular account officially switched over to t mobile beginning this week, but this seems more likely to me. Anybody else have this issue? I may just be being paranoid but I didn't see anybody else discussing this here and it doesn't seem correct.

ICC is new and required for some carriers, the rest has been like that for a while

I choose RCS not just for the features but because up to 1 company probably obtains my texts rather than me sending plain text, not encrypted, messages and pics to my pals. At the very least your carrier reads the message, possibly other MITM or the government.

Whatever you're more comfortable with.

Johnnyloans Gotcha. I appreciate you clearing that up for me. I was confused because I don't remember granting play services the phone permission for it to work before so that is why I thought google changed it recently to need that permission. I do like rcs better than without so it is what it is. Thanks for the insight
