Is this carrier locked phone problem? "SIM 1 is not allowed".

I've bought a used (OEM unlockable) Pixel 9 and installed GraphaneOS on it. Everything works fine but I cannot use the SIM1 slot (nor install eSIMs, looks like).

After inserting a physical SIM and unlocking it with the pin I get a notification with an error message shortly from Phone Services: "SIM 1 not allowed".

Strangely, this notification almost immediately disappears, but I can recover it from the history menu. Pressing on it does nothing. It will pop up later as well.

I the phone's SIM settings I can see my number and other data. But it won't connect to cell towers (signal strength shows zero with a "!").

I already tried with a different carrier's SIM, I had the same problem.

Could be there still some restriction by another carrier? How could I know this for sure? Or something else could be the problem?

I thought that every phone with GraphaneOS can be used with any carrier's SIM.

I didn't see any discussion about anything like this since most carrier locked phones are OEM unlockable as well.

I think there have been recent reports of SIM hardware problems with some Pixel 9 devices (try a search of the forum?).

I would probably return the device. Perhaps it is a testing/internal device (sometimes those leak out).

I have talked with the previous owner. She had zero issue, and I have no reason not to believe her.

Is there any possibility that somehow the phone (via its IMEI) got "banned" for using GraphaneOS? (I'm located in Europe.) Or something corrupted the phone, which is not even possible to recover by installing the stock OS?

Just for the record: I reverted back to Google stock OS, the problem still insists. It has nothing to do with Graphane, looks like.

When I set up my esim, my provider told me that esims are always installed to Sim 2 slot.

I encourage a quick scan of the forum for Pixel 9-series SIM problems. I don't have time right now to pull a list of threads, but I really believe that a forum search will turn up reports, both GrapheneOS users and non-GrapheneOS users.

dfersg1334 Hey, did you ever get this problem fixed? Dealing with the exact same issue. I called my carrier (mint) and they said my device is showing up as network locked, not blacklisted. I also put my IMEI into google's warranty site and it recognizes the device as "unlocked." I also checked the phone's mobile state with a terminal command and it looks like everything's good.

So I just experienced this issue. I've had my Pixel 9a for about 2 months (running gOS the entire time) and this morning the physical SIM just stopped working. It was working previously... My eSIM still works and my carrier had no answers for me. The SIM works in my old phone so a bit worried the phone itself has shat itself tbh.
