Johnnyloans Are you unable to use the system's VPN connection in the Terminal, or do you mean that in Termux you can connect a separate VPN?

Terminal can't use it
Termux can use it

You might be able to start up a vpn inside of terminal and connect that way.

JuiceSSH, still using an old .apk carried over from previous phones. Works well and does a good job of managing identities (keys) and connections conveniently. Not sure what its current development status is, probably abandoned.

If you are talking about the native android terminal, it should be a Debian VM, I guess everything you can do in a Debian machine is doable in this terminal (?)
I am not sure if the VM is a fully virtualized x86 processor or is still arm, I would say the second, but because of the VPN limitation I never used it.
I would wait for someone to confirm or disproof these theories.

DohnJoe It is indeed a full Debian VM and it's ARM-based. x86 would only be possible by emulation and that's super slow, especially on Pixels. If I've understood correctly Termux uses emulation, which is not ideal for performance, but offers more flexibility.

You can easily run a VPN inside the VM. I've set up Wireguard for it to connect to my server when I'm away from home.

@cdflasdkesalkjfkdfkjsdajfd you can enable developer settings, install the Terminal app wherever you need it (including in profiles) and then disable them again. The terminal stays enabled.
