Hello. Has anyone else encountered this?
Device: Google Pixel 7
OS Version: Android 16
Firmware: Issue occurs on both official stock Google firmware and GrapheneOS (latest builds based on Android 16).
Note: Screen is not original (aftermarket replacement).
Problem Description:
After updating the device to Android 16, a critical bug appeared related to the lock screen. Symptoms are as follows:
- I press the power button to lock the screen. The display turns off normally.
- When trying to wake the device (power button, tap, or lift), the screen remains completely black. Backlight does not turn on.
- The phone is not frozen and not powered off (although sometimes it does shut down completely). Tactile feedback from the fingerprint sensor works, notifications come through with sound, and the PC detects the device when connected via USB.
- The only way to get the display working again is a forced reboot by long-pressing the power button.
What I've tried:
- Factory reset — does not help. The bug returns within hours/days after a clean install.
- Disabling "Adaptive brightness" and "Smooth display" — no effect.
- Downgrading to the factory Android 14 firmware (with full data wipe) — problem disappears completely. The device works stably, and the screen turns on instantly in any situation.
Question:
Is there any known fix for this without downgrading to Android 14? Searching online hasn't yielded any working solution. Could the aftermarket screen be a factor in how Android 16 handles display drivers?
Thanks in advance for any help or insights!
