Help with ad blocking in vanadium/system wide

Hey everyone.
Long time brave user who forgot what it was like to be served ads.
I would like to stick with vanadium for my browser as all indications are it is the best option. But I have to do something about the ads. Even the pwa I create has ads in places I didn't realise they should be.
Do I change DNS settings? If so, browser or system? And which is recommended please.
Will this effect VPN use afterwards?
For reference i have right now:
Free proton VPN (account)
Free windcsribe
For VPN (beta)
Orbit.
I tried adguqrd DNS at system level but still see ads in for example twitter
I would be grateful for any help/advice

Switch on the AdBlock in Vanadium under All sites settings.
Use a good commercial product to block trackers and ads system wide. I recommend AdGuard.

Rethink allows you to use on device DNS filtering together with a VPN of choice so I guess that would be the right tool for you if you want DNS ad blocking and VPN at the same time. DNS must always be from the VPN provider to minimize fingerprinting (default in Rethink in simple proxy mode). You will also have to create, download and import into Rethink the wireguard configuration files from your VPN providers site. This step is a one time thing though. For reference I use this setup (all 'light' blocklists turned on in Rethink app) with Mullvad and I don't get ads. Full disclosure - it is not as good as uBlock or Brave adblocking when it comes to sites that order you to turn off your adblock, while uBlock/Brave will prevent such malicious scripts from popping up.

I have been playing with it all day but I can not get it to a satisfactory level. In a place where it doesn't break things I am seeing adds and I just refuse. I think I might have to just go back to brave. Although site are saying I have scripts blocked when I don't which is weird
I will persevere for now and keep playing. Its a shame as I would have liked to try sticking to vanadium

@Dan-Jessen - You might want to try NextDNS if you're willing to use Private DNS in GOS Settings > Network & Internet. Of course, DNS level ad blocking is unable to block 1st party ads AFAIK. For that you'd likely need a different browser like Firefox, IronFox, Brave or (eek!) Edge.
I myself am happy with Vanadium but my web surfing on phone is limited so it may not work for your needs. Sooner or later everything involves tradeoffs.

I use a DNS with integrated adblocking lists and that works well. I just changed the setting under Settings -> Internet -> Private DNS.

Personally I'm located in Europe and use dnsforge.de and have used dismail as well. For worldwide server locations Adguard DNS should work as well. Mullvad is another option, but personally I think their adblocking could be stricter.
