How to ensure Garmin Connect app sync with watch in background?

I've given it Optimized battery and notification permission. Is this enough? It is not syncing as for now.
New to Garmin.

pizzadequeso .. you need network, and probably location added at a minimum. It even runs fine in private space.

Optimized battery/background-usage means your phone can stop the app from running or syncing.

Unrestricted battery usage is what you're looking for I believe--it's always ready for a notification.

Does your bluetooth turn off by itself? which could be an issue

Garmin Connect needs SMS permission to allow you to receive and send SMS text messages from your Garmin devices. We also need call log permission to display incoming calls on your devices.

If not enough maybe also;
Nearby devices
Alarms and reminders
Contacts and accounts

It also have some 'Verified links' you could give it in the 'Open by default' app info entry.
Enable device location if not already.

Novaliss .. I am an old time Garmin Monkey C dev and use a discontinued device. I do not run Garmin Connect in anything but Private Space and I only sync when I am coding. Sometimes I accidentally bleep the watch date/time (by connecting it to live USB on my PC) and need to sync. Thus even though it is 1 of 2 devices I wear .. I do not do all the stuff like weather, notifications etc. So my needs are pretty simple.
