Can't change Caller ID

Hi, I have the following problem since a few months I can't figure out.

I can't change my caller ID from unknown to either "Network default" or "Show number". The reason is that I sometimes call numbers where I don't want that the othetr party to see my number.

When I want to change the setting I always get the following error messages "Call settings error - Network or SIM card error", then it tries to reread the settings again and it displays another error message: "Call settings error - Unexpected reponse from network"

What I've tried so far:

every possible "preferred network type"
of course rebooting the device
remove the SIM card
test out the SIM on another phone, where changing the caller ID is possible
even contact the carrier and issuing me a new SIM card since the other SIM card before that also had the same issue

Did anybody else have or had the same issue or/and maybe can help out here?

So, contact carrier again and ask if you can change yours caller ID on a whim on the phone or you need to asks them to do that and how long will it take and at what price.

Already tried that before changing the SIM. They can't do anything on their end and said that I should contact the manufacturer.

I don't want to change the SIM again since that doesn't solve the problem, because sometimes I want to hide my number.

As far as I know, changing caller ID is a carrier thing.
At least with my carrier I must ask for them to do it.
It's a carrier service.

Ok, than it functions differently on my end.

I can change the caller ID in the telephone app without them.
