'Action Required in Play Store'

I recently reinstalled Google Play and Play Services to troubleshoot RCS connectivity. Ever since, I've been getting GMScompat notifications for 'Action Required in Play Store'. Tapping the notification takes me to Play store where I'll find a couple of things, neither of which seem important enough for an un-dismissable GMScompat notification:

Junk in Notifications & Offers - 'Multiplayer fun with friends or foes', 'Tap into this month's game picks', etc.
Play store just wants me to approve an update that's been downloaded. I think I fixed this by enabling auto-updates but I didn't have auto-updates enabled before the reinstall, and i never got pestered with this.

I can live with the second item if allowing auto-updates fixes it. But #1 bothers me - the only notification I have enabled in Play Store is 'Account - Notify about upcoming charges or problems with payment methods'. I never had this issue before I reinstalled, so hopefully there's just a setting somewhere I've missed, but I can't find anything.

ejns Longpress that notification, then tap the cogwheel to the right. Try dismissing unwanted notifications, or at least 'minimise' them to make them not pop on screen.

Get to play store notification categories with either method:
hold finger down on play store notification > tap get icon
Or
settings > apps > see all apps > play store > notifications

Toggle off promotions, deals
Mine looks like this. Yours may have more/less categories.

Johnnyloans Mine looks more or less like yours - Payments, Deals, and Recommendations was already off, and I have Security and Errors enabled, because I suppose I might want to know about that.

I might be wrong but I believe the GMSCompat notifications only happen because Play Store tries to issue a notification that is disabled in Play Store. Having these toggles on for Play Store would result in Play Store notifications, not GMSCompat notifications.

Sorry, I missed "gmscompat" earlier. I might have gotten a junk notification once but never again.

Try this? Since play store is triggering gmscompat

open play store > top right is your account > settings > general > notifications

I toggled off: deals/promotions & preregistration

Maybe you'll find something else in play store to unsubscribe from or disable.

Johnnyloans No worries. I have pretty much all notifications turned off in Google Play. I'm going to experiment a bit to see if I can suss anything out. I'll report back.

I'm having the same problem. I turned off everything I could find in the Play Store, and I still get these notifications.

I got used to it until this thread reminded me that it's not normal.

OK, I think I figured out what went wrong. I found that Google Play Services notifications were disabled. I flipped that on a few days ago and haven't seen the GMSCompat notifications since.

Not sure how that got toggled off, but all seems well now. Thanks all!
