New Setup with either WhatsApp or G**gle Messages - what do you think?

Hello everyone,
this is my first post here, I am happily and successfully using Graphene for a couple of months now. Like a lot of people (I guess) I have a 2 Phones setup with an iPhone - the latter for Banking, iMessage etc.

Since my iPhone will not get updates after September I am considering using only my Pixel with GrapheneOS after that.
Because I currently have only two groups each consisting of two contacts in iMessages I was thinking of moving them to either WhatsApp (which I haven`t used at all so far) or to G* Messages with RCS.
I have already got a burner account for G**gle and I have a burner SIM that I could use for setting up a new WhatsApp account.

If G* Messages would be my choice I would install it in the Owner Profile as recommended alongside 2-3 other Apps that I prefer to install from Play Store for security reasons. Everything else would be put in a separate profile which I 'd use most of the time.

If WhatsApp is the choice I could do it the other way round, which is probably more convenient.
The two messaging groups that I mentioned before are not very active, not more than once a month, so I could leave that profile untouched for quite a while.

So what do you think? Which one would you prefer or even recommend?

hellodolly Depending on which carrier you're using, RCS might not always be stable, e.g.:

(for most of my other contacts I use Signal and threema, but those 4 people just won't give it a try...)

Stay away from Meta. If you go there .. put it in a separate profile or your private space.

I wouldn't choose either, lol. But if I only could use one of the 2, Google Messages all the way. You'd never ever get me on WhatsApp, even if it was the last messenger app left on earth.

hellodolly .. I cannot stand Meta, but I am a bit biased. I got booted from FB recently for using a VPN after having a profile for 18 years. Anything Meta is now dead to me. Thus I would use Google Messages, and yes in a separate space.

If I'm in your situation I would probably go with GMessage (if your contacts is fine with using that). That way your data will just be with G since you're going to need that G account anyway for PlayStore and reducing friction with multiple profiles.

Thanks for your feedback. I also lean towards Google Messages. The only positive thing about WhatsApp is that you need the SIM card just once to activate the account and still would be able to use mobile data with a different card.

I tried swapping SIM card with messages today and as soon as you put the other SIM card in it tries to register the new number which makes sense but would not work for me.
