Duplicate icons

It seems like apps that are installed using Obtainium have duplicate app icons that appear. I'm thinking every time the application is updated it creates a new icon. Is there a way to fix this? I'm not sure if this is an obtanium thing or GOS or a combo - it does seem like it's just apps installed with obtanium. I'm using the default GOS launcher.

Robduarte some screenshots would reveal precisely what you're going through. Duplicate icons? Duplicate icons that appear?

Perhaps this:
Hold you finger down on your home screen wallpaper where there isn't an app icon > home settings > add app icons for newly installed apps

Johnnyloans Thanks. I do like new app icons appearing, but turning this off is a workaround for the issue I'm seeing.

Here's an example (a recreation of the situation, but I can pay more attention the next time it happens)...
Yesterday there was only one icon for each of pipepipe and Molly. Presumably they were updated overnight in this example and that's why there are duplicate icons, but I don't know for sure.

Robduarte this is likely due to user error. At some point you mistakenly dropped another "instance" of PipePipe onto the same home screen.

This feature is useful to have multiple screen configurations.

I intentionally added 8 PipePipe icons by opening App Drawer > tap + hold + drag app to home screen > repeat x 8

To remove the additional icons simply tap + hold + drag app > drag to Remove (top left of screen)

Robduarte I came across this before few weeks. I solve the problem just by moving one of them to "remove". It happened to me few times but for me its not a big problem.
I have other problem: the new installed apps dont show on the screen automatically :D (" where there isn't an app icon > home settings > add app icons for newly installed apps > ON"). Just rn i asked Brave Ask to help and AI solved the problem. According it its a confirmed bug with GOS (as of early 2026) and the solution is to "Toggle Battery Saver on > wait 10 sec > turn off" - the new app you already installed will appear and the next one you will install will appear automatically too.

Yes, but if we find the culprit, we have more info to give obtanium for a fix since this only happens with their apps.
If you can manage through it for a bit then turn it on if you like.

You could report the issue anyway without the experiment.
It is okay to not do the change as well.

userofgos I'm pretty confident its not this, since the icons obviously appear in a batch when I next open my phone. I will watch carefully next time to see if it coincides with updates.

Robduarte interesting, I've been updating apps with Obtainium for over a year and haven't encountered this issue.

I've encountered an issue where the app icons occasionally are not added to the homescreen after installation, and then randomly after a reboot the finally appear.

Is it limited to certain apps installed or is it all apps installed by Obtainium?

userofgos can't say yet, sorry. I'll come back here the next time it happens. I'll know then which apps and whether they were just updated. I'm turning the add-new-icons option back on. I do know that they are obtanium github apps because I only have a handful installed that way, with the rest coming from play store (so its not hard to identify that they were obtanium installed)
